Made in England

All our work is designed and made in England, using English ingredients and components wherever possible. We are passionate about British ceramics, and keeping the skills alive in this country. Our work is cast in bone china, thrown in porcelain, and rolled in earthenware. It is mostly high fired up to 1300 degrees centigrade, as many as four times. This ensures it is tough, durable and dishwasher proof.

Glorious Mud started life as a collaboration between a couple of ceramic artists with many years of experience between us. We started doing craft fairs together and got chatting about how to turn our passion for clay into something more than throwing pots in our small studios.

Launched in November 2014, it has grown from an idea to a small business with distributors all over the country. It has been fun, hard work, and we have learnt a lot. The best bit (apart from the sales) is watching peoples faces and listening to your comments when you come across our work for the first time.

Made by a Human Being

Everything from the design to the prototyping, throwing, casting, decorating and firing is done by a person, not a machine. Whilst we don't have anything against mass production, there is something about a handmade piece of pottery that makes it special, so we aim to keep it this way.

Our customer service is also by a human being, not a computerized ordering system. We will correspond with you by email, and make sure you are happy with your order, and possible delivery dates, and then make it (unless it is a stock item), pack it and dispatch it to you. It isn't as quick as what you may be used to from internet shopping, but we do occasionally surprise ourselves by having the item you want in stock, so please ask.

Theresa

Maker

"Originally trained as a graphic designer, but having been a potter for

many years Theresa makes most of our porcelain decorations, and does a lot of the decorating, from underglaze painting to the applying of decals (transfers)"

Owner, Maker, and everything else

"glorious mud was devised so that I never have to get a "proper" job again. I get to spend my days doing the things I love: making, designing, coming up with new ideas and playing around with clay. There are some boring bits too, but you can't have everything."

Admin and Sales

"Portia helps out part-time with the ever-increasing amount of admin, stock control and accounts. She likes order and processes a lot more than I do, so is the perfect person to have around, doing the stuff I tend to put off."
